How will I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Our initial consultation will be the first step to exploring what your needs are, how our sessions might be tailored to suit, and simply getting to know each other. Following this, the first session will serve as an assessment, i.e., deeper exploration into your current problems and requirements. Rest assured, this is a two-way street; if I think another therapist might be better suited, we’ll talk about why.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes, your therapy sessions are confidential. The only exception would be if you were to share something that suggested a threat to yourself or others, in which case the relevant parties would be notified. Apart from exceptional circumstances, I would always seek to discuss this with you first.

How regularly do I need to attend?

Weekly sessions can help to facilitate a gradual and steady progress, leading to genuine results. If for any reason you wish for two or more per week, or perhaps a session every other week, it’s all open to discussion. Together, we’ll aim to come to a mutual understanding about what might be the most beneficial arrangement.

Can you provide support outside of sessions?

I understand that things happen unexpectedly. Therefore, if you do need to talk between our scheduled sessions, I will do my utmost to fit you independent on availabilityand endeavour to respond to emails ASAP. That said, it is important to stress that I cannot commit to responding during out-of-office hours. In the case of an emergency, you will need to contact your GP, or, if necessary, emergency services. Alternatively, the Samaritans offers a 24-hour helpline on 116 123.

How do I pay for sessions?

Following the free consultation and prior to our first session, I will send you a ‘Client Details’ form to be completed. This is simply so I can add your contact information to my records, as well as that of your chosen emergency contact. This form also includes bank transfer details. I am happy for you to pay per session, or monthlywhatever works for you.

Do you offer discounts?

I do offer a sliding scale when it comes to payments, i.e., concessions are available for low-income clients. This represents a pre-allocated portion of my caseload, yet I am happy to add you to a waiting list if there is no opening at the time of your enquiry.

What happens if I need to cancel last-minute?

Again, I understand that things happen unexpectedly. With this in mind, I am accommodating if a last-minute cancellation cannot be avoided, however if they are a frequent occurrence then I will implement a ‘no show, full fee’ policy. When able, I kindly ask for as much notice as possible (preferably 24 hours) allowing me to open your appointment to other clients.
